Children & Youth

First Congregational United Church of Christ is committed to engaging people of all ages in the life of our congregation. People of all ages are welcome here, and all of us still are growing in our faith.

Preschool & Elementary children

Sunday School for Preschool - Grade 5 meets at 11am during the school year on the third floor of our Education Building.

We have a number of special events throughout the year sponsored by our Christian Education team such as Kick Off Sunday, the annual Children's Christmas Program, service projects, and our Vacation Bible School style "Camp Congo" in the summer.

Middle & high school youth

Middle and High School Youth meet on Wednesdays at 5:15pm during the school year to have some fun and gain support through the intersection of faith and adolescent life. In addition the youth do a number of service projects throughout the year. We also have Confirmation class for youth who wish to be confirmed, typically during 7-8th grade.

youth music

First Congregational Church has an active music program for children and students, led by Youth Choir Director Cathy Bixby. “We choose a variety of songs through the year so that the young children learn traditional Bible songs, carols and spirituals. As they mature, they learn to sing in parts to teach them how to harmonize. While the children are a special part of our services, we also believe it’s important to help them learn about music,” Cathy says.

The youth music program is open to all young people, including non-members, with a full range of experience and talent levels.

Youth Choir is open to to students in 3rd through 8th grade. This choir rehearses at 6 pm on Wednesdays throughout the school year and sings during the Sunday worship service once a month. Several times a year, older children come together to create music with Tone Chimes. They rehearse once a week for four weeks leading up to a Sunday worship service.
